Numerical issues

The only previous works to this study is a 1 or 2D, two-level Maxwell–Bloch code [ZAG95]. They use the Crank–Nicolson scheme to discretize the Bloch equations. It is theoretically trace-preserving, but not in pratice due to the cumulative error of fixed-point procedures. Besides, it does not preserve the positiveness properties for more tan two levels. For this reason, we use a splitting scheme [BBR01] which is positiveness-preserving.
